The lesson from Wisconsin is that billionaires can buy elections, Democratic Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel said Thursday. “Democracy is being bought by literally a handful of people who can afford to write anything they want,” Israel said on MSNBC Thursday morning.

As you know, I’m a big baseball fan. I’ve never been to a baseball game in history where one side is told that they don’t get bats and they don’t get gloves. If we want to win the house back and defend Medicare instead of allowing Republicans to defend millionaires, we have to be able to compete. Wisconsin told us that these Republicans, this small group of people who can write unlimited money and buy elections, had free reign.

Israel said Americans should elect a Democratic majority in order to pass the DISLCOSE Act, a bill proposed to bolster disclosure rules after Citizens United. Wednesday, Israel said that Democrats’ ground game would not be enough to compete with Republicans unless it was coupled with competition on the air waves as well.
