DCCC Chairman Steve Israel released this statement to mark the 47th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act:

“As we pause to reflect and celebrate the 47th anniversary of the historic Voting Rights Act, we are reminded that this fight endures. Countless Americans sacrificed their lives to break down barriers, end discrimination and ensure that African Americans have the right to vote.

“With 92 days left until Election Day, we must fight Republicans’ voter suppression efforts around the country and ensure that every citizen can vote and every vote is counted.

“On this anniversary we thank our colleagues Assistant Leader Jim Clyburn, Congressman John Lewis and many others for their tireless leadership on civil rights.”
