British Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday assured citizens that they will have the ultimate say in the country’s membership in the European Union, Reuters reported.
Cameron promised that there will be a nationwide referendum on British membership in the E.U. at some point between 2015 and 2017 — if he wins the next election.
“It is time for the British people to have their say,” Cameron said in the long-anticipated speech. “It is time for us to settle this question about Britain and Europe.”
