Conservative columnist David Brooks of The New York Times used his Friday column to urge Republicans to pass help pass legislation to overhaul the nation’s immigration system, contending that failure to do so would be “political suicide” for the GOP.
The column, titled “Pass the Bill!”, came days after conservative pundits Bill Kristol and Rich Lowry teamed up to write a column imploring Republicans to “kill” immigration reform.
“This could be a tragedy for the country and political suicide for Republicans, especially because the conservative arguments against the comprehensive approach are not compelling,” Brooks wrote.
