In the wake of House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)’s announcement that he won’t run for House speaker, David Brock, founder of Correct The Record, released a statement calling for an end to the House special committee on Benghazi. McCarthy caused an uproar last week when he suggested the committee successfully damaged Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers.
“Kevin McCarthy fell for telling the truth about a political charade. He exposed the partisan effort to sabotage Hillary Clinton’s campaign and it cost him the speakership,” Brock said in the statement.
Brock’s organization works to “defend Hillary Clinton from baseless attacks,” according to the group’s website.
Brock asked if Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), who chairs the House Benghazi committee, would face the same fate as McCarthy for pushing a “partisan agenda.”
“I said it last week and I’ll say it again, Trey Gowdy should disband this sham of a committee now,” Brock wrote.
Leading Senate Democrats and The New York Times editorial board have also called for the committee to be disbanded.
