Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) vowed Wednesday to block all State Department nominations until President Barack Obama taps an inspector general to investigate matters such as the deadly attack in Benghazi, Libya.
“During the last five years, there have been deadly attacks on U.S. diplomatic personnel in Libya, mismanagement of security contractors at our embassy in Afghanistan, and hundreds of millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars wasted for police training in Iraq,” Cruz said in a statement. “These issues highlight the State Department’s need for an Inspector General as soon as possible.”
Cruz added that he’s notified both Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) that he will “will place a hold on all State Department nominations” until an IG is nominated.
