In a letter that will be submitted to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) on Tuesday, Republican Sens. Ted Cruz (TX), Rand Paul (KY) and Mike Lee (UT) threatened to filibuster any gun control legislation “that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions.”
The three Republicans did not explicitly use the word “filibuster” in the letter, which was obtained by Politico, the language used leaves little doubt about the threat.
“We will oppose the motion to proceed to any legislation that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions,” the senators wrote in the letter.
While Reid has said that his bill will address background checks and gun trafficking, Politico noted that some Republican senators are concerned that Democrats will add amendments to the legislaton that will impose further restrictions on guns.
