A man who identified as a cousin of the older Boston bombing suspect who was killed Thursday night told the Boston Globe in an article published Friday that Tamaralan Tsarnaev was “up to no good.”

“I used to warn Dzhokhar that Tamaralan was up to no good,” said Zaur Tsarnaev, who identified as 26 and a cousin of the two brothers. “[Tamaralan] was always getting into trouble. He was never happy, never cheering, never smiling. He used to strike his girlfriend. He hurt her a few times. He was not a nice man. I don’t like to speak about him. He caused problems for my family.”

But the younger brother, Dzhokhar, who is still at large? He was much nicer, the cousin said, echoing other family members and friends who have described Dzhokhar as a fairly normal person whom they never thought would commit mass murder.

“Dzhokhar is a sweet boy, innocent. He was always smiling, friendly and happy,” Zaur Tsarnaev told the Globe. “I don’t know how he is involved in this.”

Zaur Tsarnaev spoke to the Boston paper from the Russian Republic Of Dagestan.
