The U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals struck down an Illinois law prohibiting citizens from carrying concealed guns in public Tuesday, awarding a major victory to guns rights advocates, the AP reports. Illinois was the only state where carrying guns in public was entirely illegal.
The 2-1 decision gives the state legislature 180 days to put in place new legislation imposing “reasonable limitations” on carrying guns in public before the decision goes into effect.
The Illinois attorney general’s office is reviewing the ruling and has not commented yet on whether it will appeal the decision.
