Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) on Monday said he hopes the bipartisan group of senators pushing immigration reform is successful, but emphasized President Obama will need to play a leadership role in the effort.

“It really requires presidential leadership, like so many of these issues, because it’s easy for people to sort of get off in their corner and argue their particular agenda, but it’s hard to come together on big, complex … topics,” Cornyn said on “Fox and Friends.”

Cornyn added that any immigration reform legislation would need to pass both chambers of Congress. “We’ve got a lot of work to do,” he said.

The bipartisan group of senators are expected to outline their immigration reform plan Monday at 2:30 p.m. ET. Obama is scheduled to begin his immigration reform push in Las Vegas, Nev., on Tuesday.
