Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, will not be prosecuted in Florida for battery after he allegedly manhandled a reporter, Politico reported on Wednesday night, citing unnamed sources.
CNN also reported that Lewandowski will not be prosecuted early Thursday morning, citing unnamed sources.
Palm Beach County State Attorney David Aronberg did not comment on Lewandowski’s case on Wednesday, but told Politico last week that local police in Jupiter, Florida — where the charges were filed — have a lower standard for probable cause in battery cases.
“We have a higher standard to go forward with a prosecution,” he said last week.
Aronberg will hold a press conference on Thursday, according to the New York Times. He will announce that the county will not press charges, Politico reported.
Local Florida police in March charged Lewandowski with misdemeanor battery after former Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields filed a police report claiming that he forcefully grabbed her arm when she tried to ask Donald Trump a question following a press conference.
Fields told The Blaze on Wednesday night that she is considering filing a defamation lawsuit against Lewandowski. Politico also reported that Fields might file a defamation suit, citing an unnamed source.
After Fields accused Lewandowski of grabbing her and nearly forcing her to the ground, the Trump campaign attempted to paint Fields as “delusional” and as an “attention seeker.” Following Fields’ initial accusations, the Trump campaign denied that the incident occurred. And when video of the incident was released by police, the campaign insisted that Lewandowski was innocent.
