Stephen Colbert discussed his show, politics, and comedy — both in and out of character — in an interview with NBC’s David Gregory and aired in part on “Meet the Press” Sunday. While in character, he noted that Mitt Romney is “on a rocket ride to plausible” since the first presidential debate.

At one point, Colbert took issue with Gregory’s question: “Why write another book here? I mean, you’ve written others.”

“You obviously haven’t read it if you have to ask that question,” Colbert said. “‘Hey, Homer, Iliad was good. Why write the Odyssey?’ ‘Hey, God, why two testaments? One was fine.’ Really… You’ve already found someone to marry you, right? ‘Cause you are rude.”
