Stephen Colbert welcomed New York City comptroller candidate Eliot Spitzer on his program Thursday night for an interview that combined critical questions with suggestive references to the former New York governor’s 2008 prostitution scandal.

“Given a position of this responsibility, shouldn’t the job of comptroller go to someone who has shown a modicum of self-comptrol?” Colbert asked Spitzer.
