Codecademy, the NY-based startup that seeks to teach novices how to write software through a series of game-like lessons online, on Wednesday announced it now offers lessons on how to build Web apps using data from major companies including Google’s YouTube, NPR, Soundcloud, Bitly and the Sunlight Foundation, among others.
Codecademy’s new courses are focused on teaching users how to work with the application programming interfaces (APIs) made available by these brands. API is a general term describing code that allows different aspects of software to communicate. Right now, Codecademy supports API lessons for nine websites, with one more, Stripe, due out soon. Codecademy also took to its Twitter account Wednesday to solicit more companies to work with it to offer lessons for their APIs.
