Bill Clinton has recorded a robocall urging North Carolina voters to oppose Amendment One, an anti-gay marriage constitutional amendment on the North Carolina ballot Tuesday that would ban civil unions as well as same-sex marriage, reports CNN.
“Hello, this is President Bill Clinton. I’m calling to urge you to vote against Amendment One on Tuesday May 8,” Clinton says on the call.
The call stresses that the law would be bad for business.
“If it passes, it won’t change North Carolina’s law on marriage. What it will change is North Carolina’s ability to keep good businesses, attract new jobs and attract and keep talented entrepreneurs,” he says.
A survey from Public Policy Polling Monday showed North Carolina voters poised to approve Amendment One, 55 percent to 39 percent.
Clinton endorsed gay marriage in 2009. The call is set to reach half a million voters on Monday.
