Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the three candidates on stage at Saturday’s Democratic presidential debate were equipped to pass gun safety legislation.

“It’s no longer enough just to say the vast majority of Americans want common sense gun safety measures including gun owners,” Clinton said. “We need, and only the three of us will do this—nobody on the Republican side will even admit there’s a problem—and in whatever way the three of us can we need to move this agenda forward.”

Clinton also called on Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to join her in working to close the “Charleston loophole,” referring to the shortcomings that allowed 21-year-old Dylann Roof to buy the guns he used to kill nine people at a historic black church in South Carolina.

“I would hope, Sen. Sanders, that you would join the Democrats who are trying to close the Charleston loophole,” Clinton said. “That you would sponsor or co-sponsor legislation to remove the absolute immunity. We need to move on this consensus that exists in the country.”
