Authorities in New Jersey are still evaluating the extent of the damage caused by Superstorm Sandy overnight. Gov. Chris Christie said that hundreds of individuals had been rescued and that the amusement pier in Seaside Park was half washed out. “New Jersey kind of took it in the neck more than anyone I think,” Christie told ABC.

Hundreds of people were rescued from low-lying towns in Moonachie and Little Ferry after the Hackensack River overflowed, according to Christie. Point Pleasant Beach was also overwhelmed by flooding. “It’s just a horrible, horrible mess,” resident Rosemary Gallo told The Star-Ledger.
