Mississippi state Sen. Chris McDaniel (R) announced that he will hold a press conference on Monday to announce a “major development regarding the results of the June 24 runoff election.”

McDaniel announced the press conference on Friday through a press release. The press conference will be at 2:30 p.m. (CT) at the offices of his attorney, Mitch Tyner.

Since the runoff, which Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) won, McDaniel has argued that he is in fact the true Republican nominee for U.S. Senate and that Cochran only won through Democratic votes. McDaniel’s staff and supporters have since been poring over poll books in preparation for a legal challenge.

On July 16, McDaniel held a press conference which at first seemed to be where he would formally announce his legal challenge to the runoff election results. But that much-touted conference ended up with little news. McDaniel’s lawyer promised that a legal challenge was likely to come in the next ten days.

McDaniel has yet to announce that legal challenge.
