Russian billionaire Yuri Milner’s Fundamental Physics Prize Foundation has awarded its top prizes for scientific discovery and $3 million each to British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) — the scientific collaboration that oversees the Large Hadron Collider particle accelerator where a new particle that looks to be the Higgs boson was discovered in July, Yahoo News reported Tuesday.

The news should come as something of a consolation prize to the CERN scientists behind the Higgs boson who lost out on this year’s Nobel Prize
