California Republicans are standing by a website they created full of partisan information about health care reform. A spokesperson for the California Assembly Republican Caucus told ABC News this week that the website maintained by the caucus, coveringhealthcareca.com, was intended to be informational.
“It’s a complex law, and we wanted to make sure our constituents had the tools to understand what this law meant for them,” Sabrina Demayo Lockhart, communications director for the Assembly Republican Caucus, told ABC News.
As TPM reported on Tuesday, the neutral-looking website bills itself as a “resource guide” to health care reform. But while parts of the website play it relatively straight (and the website itself links to the exchange’s website), other parts focus only on perceived negative effects of the law. Residents in California have reportedly been receiving mailers from Republicans directing them to the website.
The Los Angeles Times noted on Tuesday that after the website first began receiving critical attention, California Republicans updated it to include links to the state insurance exchange Covered California.
