Sen. Scott Brown and his Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren are in a dead heat in Massachusetts where the latest Suffolk University/7NEWS poll shows Brown with a one-point lead, 48 percent to 47 percent. This represents a tightening since the last Suffolk poll in February showed Warren trailing Brown by 9 points.

“This leaves both campaigns no choice but to spend tens of millions of dollars in an all-out war to woo the five percent of voters who will decide this election,” said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center in Boston.

The Poll also gauged voters’ reaction to the ongoing story over whether Warren has Cherokee heritage, which the Brown campaign and Massachusetts Republicans have been pushing for weeks. Seventy-two percent of likely voters were aware of the controversy, the poll found, but almost as many, 69 percent, said it is not a significant story. Among voters familiar with the story, 49 percent said Warren was being truthful about her heritage while 28 percent said she was not.

The PollTracker Average also shows an extremely tight race between Brown and Warren:
