Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) on Wednesday advised candidates not to pause while speaking during debates, alluding to her own gaffe in 2010.

When asked if she had any advice for the gubernatorial candidates ahead of their first debate tonight, she responded, “Don’t pause,” according to 3TV.

During her opening statement in a 2010 debate, Brewer awkwardly paused for 13 seconds.

After doling out advice, Brewer laughed and said that her debate gaffe gave her a boost among voters.

“It actually helped me in the polls,” she said.

On Wednesday, Republican nominee Doug Ducey will debate Democrat Fred DuVal.
