Brazilian Judge Allows American Companies to Keep Drilling After Spills

A Brazilian prosecutor has failed in his effort to halt oil drilling by Chevron and rig company Transocean LTD. An appellate division denied an injunction against the companies would challenge the regulatory authority of Brazil’s central oil regulator, ANP. The prosecutor, Eduardo Santos de Oliveira, took action after offshore oil spills by the companies. Oliveira has also pursued a lawsuit and criminal charges against both Chevron and Transocean.
