Virginia Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling (R) said he now wishes he would have stuck it out longer in the state’s gubernatorial race.
Bolling’s late-November decision to not run in the race all but handed the Republican nomination to state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. The lieutenant governor then openly considered running as an independent before opting against that option that as well. And although he circulated an email in December telling supporters that he was “at peace” with his decision, Bolling now acknowledges that his withdrawal may have been premature.
“If I have one regret about the decision it’s that I wish I had waited longer,” Bolling told the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “Because if I had waited longer I think we may have (seen) the direction these campaigns were going and that may have made it easier to raise more money.”
Former Hillary Clinton adviser Terry McAuliffe is running on the Democratic side.
