Ahead of scheduled meeting between President Barack Obama and congressional leaders, Michael Steel, a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), argued on Wednesday that the White House is making a half-hearted effort to avoid the looming sequestration deadline.

“At this point, the Obama administration isn’t even pretending to try to stop the sequester,” Steel said in an email to reporters.

Steel highlighted the fact that Friday’s planned meeting will be the first time this year that Obama sits down face-to-face with congressional Republican leaders.
