Speaker John Boehner defended his decision to remove several conservative Republicans from committee seats on Wednesday, repotedly telling members in a conference meeting that they were disloyal to the party.

“The Committee’s decision had nothing to do with ideology,” Boehner said, according to Buzzfeed’s John Stanton. “For those suggesting otherwise, I’d respectfully suggest that you look at some of the people the Steering Committee put in charge of committees.”

The four represenattives — Justin Amash (R-MI), David Schweikert (R-AZ), Walter Jones (R-NC), and Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) — became a major cause on the right on Tuesday amid cries of a “purge” against tea party lawmakers.
