Boehner On Debt Limit Fight: Congress Won’t Give Up Power Of The Purse

House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday he rejects the notion that President Obama should unilaterally raise the debt ceiling if Congress doesn’t reach a deal to increase the nation’s borrowing limit. “Congress is never going to give up our ability to control the purse,” Boehner said. The debt limit fight, he added, “should be used to bring fiscal sanity to Washington, D.C.”
