Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, surrounded by supporters who chanted “free our governor,” offered a departing press conference before he heads off to federal prison tomorrow.

Blagojevich thanked the supporters who sent bibles and prayer beads and bought the family food as he prepared for the “next part of a dark and hard journey” and reflected on his political and personal life.

“Maybe I fought too much,” Blagojevich told the crowd of reporters and supporters. “Maybe one of the lessons is you need to be more humble.”

Though he’s appealing the case, Blagojevich said he will “accept that decision as hard as it is, and this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.”

“It’s hard for me to say that I need to go to prison,” Blagojevich said. “This is not over, we have faith in the future, faith in the rule of law, faith in God and faith that fight will make might.”
