RICHMOND, VA — Vice President Biden took his gun violence prevention pitch on the road Friday, stopping here to talk with some of the officials who worked in the aftermath of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting as well as other area officials.
The focus was again on background checks, the central push from the White House and Biden since the Obama administration’s gun violence prevention plan was developed after Newtown. In brief remarks after his meeting, Biden did not bring up a ban on so-called assault weapons, which the administration supports but has little support among the gun rights crowd on Capitol Hill.
Biden hinted at more trips to sell the president’s gun plans in the future.
“We’re going to continue to go around the country,” Biden said.
Asked by a reporter how the White House plans to sell its package to reluctant lawmakers in Washington, Biden was not forthcoming.
“With persuasion and information,” he said.
