Vice President Joe Biden is fundraising for a Democrat running for Rep. Steve King’s (R-IA) House seat.
On Sept. 24, Biden will headline a fundraiser for Iowa Democrat Jim Mowrer who is challenging King, according to the Des Moines Register. The fundraiser is in Washington D.C.
Mowrer, an Iraq war veteran, is a longtime supporter of Biden’s and previously worked with Biden’s son Beau as a military contractor at Camp Victory in Baghdad. Mowrer also previously served as the Iowa statewide veterans director for Biden’s presidential campaign in 2007.
The news of Biden’s fundraiser comes just a few days after he returned from Sen. Tom Harkin’s (D-IA) Iowa Steak Fry. Biden’s attendance at the event in a coveted primary state adds to speculation that he is laying the groundwork for a presidential run in 2016.
Besides the vice president, his son, Hunter, Rep. John Delaney (D-MD) and Biden aides Trip King and Larry Rasky will be at the fundraiser, according to the invitation obtained by the Register.
