At a hearing Tuesday, Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) tore into the IRS for targeting conservative groups and declared, “I intend to get to the bottom of what happened.”
“The IRS abandoned good judgment and lost the public’s trust,” he said in his opening statement. “The American people have every right to be outraged.”
“Targeting based on the political views is not only inappropriate but it is intolerable. We need to understand how and why this targeting occurred. We need to know who was involved and who was responsible. We need to install new safeguards to ensure this never happens again.”
