Tom Barrett has released statement in the Wisconsin recall election, reacting to Thursday night’s release of a documentary video from January 2011 that showed Republican Gov. Scott Walker telling a wealthy donor that he had a “divide and conquer” strategy to take down organized labor, starting with his legislation to roll back public employee unions, and potentially turn Wisconsin into a right-to-work state:

“Scott Walker has plunged our state into political turmoil with his ‘divide and conquer’ style of governing, and Wisconsin is tired of it. More alarming is how Walker says in public what he thinks the people want to hear, but then reveals his true colors to the conservative billionaires bankrolling his campaign. We cannot trust what Scott Walker says, and we can’t fix Wisconsin and stop our massive job loss if we keep Scott Walker as governor.”

Barrett, the mayor of Milwaukee, won the Democratic primary for the recall on Tuesday. He and Walker are now facing off for the general election on June 5.
