The Tom Barrett campaign has released an internal poll in the Wisconsin recall, claiming that Republican Gov. Scott Walker has only a 2-point edge, within the margin of error.

The poll conducted by Democratic firm Garin-Hart-Yang Research gives Walker 50 percent support, to Barrett’s 48 percent. The polling memo by Frederick Yang also says that among the subset who are certain to vote, the race is a 49-49 tie. The survey of 635 likely voters was conducted from May 22-23, and has a 3 percent margin of error.

The Barrett campaign first announced the result in a fundraising email to its supporter list, in which Barrett said: “Our pollster just came out of the field with a new tracking poll that shows our campaign has closed the gap with Scott Walker and the race is now a dead heat. As you’ve heard me say before, Scott Walker has out of state billionaires, I have you. Together, we can win this election, but I need your immediate help.”

The TPM Poll Average currently gives Walker 51.6 percent, to Barrett’s 45.6 percent.
