Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour said Monday on CBS’s “This Morning” President Obama’s newfound support of gay marriage is a political maneuver aimed at pleasing a powerful group of gay lobbyists. Barbour also suggested Obama’s marriage position might not be a sufficient olive branch to the gay community because the president said he belives states should be allowed to decide the issue.

“This is about politics. And the gay lobbying, homosexual groups in the Democratic Party are very, very powerful,” said Barbour. “It will be very interesting to see how the gay groups look at President Obama saying, ‘well, I’m for homosexual marriage but we’ll let the states decide.’ I think that’s unpopular.”
