NBC News correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin said Sunday that he’s taking a break from covering the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Mohyeldin said on Twitter that he’s taking some time off to be with his family.

His apparent voluntary departure from the beat comes only weeks after he was mysteriously pulled out of Gaza by NBC.

The network said the decision was driven by security concerns, but many openly speculated that it was politically motivated.

NBC pulled Mohyeldin off the story almost immediately after he witnessed and reported on an Israeli strike that killed four young boys on a beach in Gaza.

After criticism intensified, NBC sent Mohyeldin back to Gaza two days after he was abruptly removed from the region.
