Senior Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod said on a conference call with reporters Monday that Mitt Romney’s appointment of Mark Leavitt to head his transition team seemed like a political move.
“I think that it is in part standard operating procedure for both campaigns to have a transition,” Axelrod said. “It’s not standard operating procedure necessarily to make a big point of it. And so I view it as a kind of political gesture on his part to do that.”
Axelrod, predictably, said he believed Obama would win in November, an outcome that would render Romney’s appointment moot. “I congratulate Gov. Romney on the appointment of his transition team. I think their report will be ultimately a part of the dustbin of history.”
