The group Mayors Against Illegal Guns is pushing President Obama and Mitt Romney to develop a plan to stem gun violence by airing an ad featuring a survivor of the Aurora theater shooting during the first presidential debate Wednesday, reports CNN.
In the ad, 22-year old Stephen Barton, who was shot in the face and neck during the July shooting, asks debate-watchers to push both candidates on the issue of gun violence. The ad is set to run nationally.
“This past summer in a movie theater in Colorado, I was shot,” Barton says in the ad. “But I was lucky. In the next four years, 48,000 Americans won’t be so lucky. Because they’ll be murdered with guns in the next president’s term, enough to fill over two hundred theaters. So when you watch the presidential debates, ask yourself, ‘Who has a plan to stop gun violence?’ Let’s demand a plan.”
