Astronaut Completes First ‘Triathlon’ In Space

NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, lately known for breaking the record for longest cumulative time spent spacewalking by a female astronaut and fixing the International Space Station with a toothbrush, has chalked up another record: Completing the first triathlon in space, or at least replicating the exertion of a triathlon using exercise equipment on the station, as Florida Today reported. 

Williams wanted to participate alongside the contestants in Sunday’s 2012 Malibu Triathlon, and completed the activities, including simulated swimming using a specialized weightlifting machine, in 1 hour, 48 minutes, 43 seconds. She also trained ahead of time on Earth with CNN‘s Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Here’s a video montage of her going through the simulated triathlon aboard the space station, released Monday by NASA:
