A new poll of the Ohio Republican primary from American Research Group conducted Saturday and Sunday shows former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney on the upswing in the state after his victories in Michigan and Arizona last week. Romney gets 35 percent in the poll, former Pennsylvania Rick Santorum 28, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich gets 18 percent and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) rounds out the field at 13 percent.
The key seems to be that Romney is now gaining support among conservatives, and while he is marginally outpaced by Santorum among that group, he wins amongst the other subsections of the party. From ARG:
Santorum leads with 37% among likely Republican primary voters saying they are supporters of the Tea Party, followed by Romney with 33%, Gingrich with 17%, and Paul with 10%. Among likely primary voters saying they are not supporters of the Tea Party or are undecided about the Tea Party, Romney leads with 38%, followed by Santorum and Gingrich with 19% each, and Paul with 16%.
The TPM Poll Average now shows Romney with a 2.4 percent lead in the Ohio GOP primary.
