Apple has sent out invitations for an event on Tuesday, October 23, at which the company is widely-expected to unveil a long-rumored “iPad Mini,” a smaller-screen version of Apple’s best selling tablet, The Verge reported Tuesday.
Apple’s move came at almost the same time as Microsoft began taking online pre-orders for its first tablet, the Microsoft Surface, which has a 10-inch screen and costs $499 for the cheapest model, the same price and size as a new, full-sized iPad, but comes with twice as much onboard memory. The Surface will be available for purchase in physical Microsoft pop-up stores on October 26.
