Apple CEO Tim Cook sent an email to employees stating that the company has made a $2.5 million donation to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, according to the blog 9to5Mac, which obtained and reprinted a copy. Apple, which had earlier set up a way for users to donate the storm relief efforts through iTunes, reported $50 billion in operating cash in its most recent quarterly earnings statement (Q4 2012). Late Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs was previously criticized for not conspicuously generously donating to charity.
