Apple on Monday announced that in its retail debut weekend of the iPad Mini and fourth-generation full-size iPad, the devices combined sold 3 million units. It took the original iPad, released in April 2010, nearly a month to reach 1 million sales.

There’s been a bit of controversy over Apple lumping together the number of 4th generation iPads and iPad Minis in its sales total this time, though, with All Things D asking why the company didn’t break down the sales into two different product categories and The Loop hitting back, saying Apple shouldn’t do so because the iPad Mini and iPad are part of the same line.
