Virginia resident Amine El Khalifi was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Friday for plotting to set off a suicide bomb in the U.S. Capitol during an FBI sting operation. His legal team revealed in court filings earlier this week that FBI officials posing as terrorists promised El Khalifi they would give his family “martyrdom payments” of up to $1,000 per month if he went through with the plot.
El Khalifi was arrested in February after walking towards the U.S. Capiol with a fake bomb and pled guilty to attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction in June.
