Former Sen. Alan Simpson (R-WY), a man who knows a thing or two about putting a foot in a mouth on occasion, weighed in on a fellow Wyoming Republican in trouble for his lack of tact.
Simpson told MSNBC today that Rick Santorum backer Foster Friess is “my neighbor.” And so he gave Friess a little backup up when it came to his comments about women and aspirin from Thursday. Simpson called the comment “bizarre” and “not approprtiate” but said the now famous MSNBC appearance was a joke gone awry.
“[K]nowing him, he thought it was funny. Kind of getting full of himself, I have done that,” Simpson said. “I know there’s a fine line between smart humor and smartass and I’ve crossed that and I think he did.”
