Fifty-five percent of Americans are in favor of providing a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants in the country, according to the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll released Wednesday.

According to the poll, 41 percent are opposed to the idea. The poll is the latest piece of data to suggest that there is broad support for a path to citizenship. A poll in December showed more than 60 percent of Americans backed immigration reform that included a path to citizenship.

But it remains unpopular on the right. Wednesday’s poll showed that 54 percent of Republicans oppose the proposal.
