Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO) is lining up behind Mitt Romney’s campaign; an impressive get for the former Massachusetts governor.

Blunt only recently became Senator, having won his seat in 2010, but he’s a veteran Congressman who’s held a number of leadership posts. Romney will task him with corralling other lawmakers into the Romney campaign, a role that Blunt performed for George W. Bush’s 2000 campaign. Given that Senators have been notably reluctant to endorse this year, it’s an impressive score.

“Our nation faces historic challenges today, and under President Obama’s policies, we’ve witnessed high unemployment, skyrocketing debt, out-of-control spending, and burdensome regulations that have stifled job creation,” Blunt said in a statement. “Through his experience in the private sector and as governor, I believe Mitt has the right background to help create more economic certainty and spur job growth in Missouri and nationwide, and that’s why I’m proud to lead his Congressional Team.”

As the race narrows to Romney and Rick Perry, backers are starting to line up a bit faster. Notable recent endorsements for Romney include Tim Pawlenty and Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), who is also running for Senate. Perry recently lined up coveted endorsements from Governors Brian Sandoval (NV) and Bobby Jindal (LA).
