It was bound to happen eventually.

In an interview with The Des Moines Register published on Wednesday night, Rick Perry – Texas Governor and former Texas A&M yell leader – was asked: What yell would you give to urge on your campaign?

“Rick Perry. Liberty. Rick Perry. Freedom. Freedom is working. Liberty is working. We’ve got to get America working again,” the candidate responded.

Gov. Perry served as a yell leader during his time at Texas A&M, a position that The Texas Tribune has described as “an esteemed male cheerleader who has traditional responsibilities at major athletic events.”

His campaign has previously sought to laugh off references to his college leadership experience, hoping to downplay comparisons to President Bush, who also served as a cheerleader while an undergrad at Yale.

There has been no word yet on if and when the new campaign yell will make it into the candidate’s stump speech.
