Republican Todd P’Pool (pronounced “Pea-Pool”) has a new ad in this November’s race for Kentucky Attorney General, attacking incumbent Democrat Jack Conway by tying him to President Obama — which might feel a bit familiar, from Conway’s unsuccessful campaign for Senate last year.

“Barack Obama is destroying America – and Jack Conway has done nothing to stop him in Kentucky,” the announcer says. “Conway supports Obamacare, watches Obama’s EPA destroy jobs by hurting the coal industry, and Conway shares Obama’s pro-choice values.

“On day one as Attorney General, Todd P’Pool will report for duty and fight Obamacare; save coal jobs by fighting the EPA; and Todd P’Pool is 100% pro-life.

“Todd P’Pool lives Kentucky’s values — not Obama’s.”

Conway was the Democratic nominee for Senate in 2010, losing by a 56%-44% margin to Republican Rand Paul during a GOP wave. By the end of the race, Conway’s personal popularity suffered severely, due in part to fallout over an ad he did attacking Paul’s Christian credentials — also seriously alienating the crucial key swing demographic of Aqua-Buddhist voters.

A survey two weeks ago from Public Policy Polling (D) gave Conway a lead of 47%-36%. The poll also shows a narrow plurality of voters having a favorable opinion of Conway. One factor helping Conway is the popularity of Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear, who in his own race leads Republican nominee David Williams by a 55%-28% margin, plus 10% for an independent candidate.
