Oh, Herman Cain. It’s been a good ride. So it was with a heavy heart that Jon Stewart on Monday bid farewell to the fallen one-time frontrunner.

During a Saturday appearance in Atlanta, Cain announced that he is suspending his presidential campaign. But Cain wasn’t immediately available after his introduction. His campaign bus was just rolling in.

“That is the beauty of Herman Cain,” Stewart said. “You don’t know if they planned this or if he was late. ‘Oh shit, they just said my name, gas it!'”

But the best moment of Cain’s appearance — arguably, his entire campaign — was a quote from the Pokemon movie, quoted from the song that appears during the closing credits: “Life can be a challenge. Life can seem impossible. It’s never easy when there’s so much on the line.”

“That’s right, Herman Cain’s farewell address, words of wisdom to his followers and supporters, the final moments of his campaign, are from the closing credits of the Pokemon movie, the thing they play to get you the fuck out of the theater,” Stewart said.

Cain’s withdrawal from the race leaves Republicans in a precarious position, Stewart said: “Up Newt creek without a paddle.”
