A lot of Republicans still really, really want New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to run for president. And a secretive new pro-Christie ad campaign running in New Jersey is making the case.

Christie says he’s not in, and has said he’s not in repeatedly. But he’s welcoming a new $1.5 million ad campaign that appears to be making a nationally-focused case for how great Christie is — just the kind of thing he’d need if he did jump in.

Here’s the ad:

Details on the ad, from the Star-Ledger, sponsored by the anonymously-funded and somewhat vaguely named “Committee For Our Childrens Future”:

The group is focused on tax and spending reform and will be advocating for long-term fiscal solutions, spokesman Brian Jones said. The groups has a three-member board that includes Kevin Feeley, persident, Bob Teeven, treasurer, and Lynn Grone, secretary.

This group will not release their donors beyond the minimal requirements by the IRS when they file annual reports that include only top donors, Jones said.

Area reporters have gone digging for more on the group and come up with some connections to Christie’s years as a student at the University of Delaware. The spokesperson is a former communications for John McCain’s presidential bid.

For his part, Christie says he welcomes the ads — whatever they’re meant to do — and said he sees no need for a group saying nice things about him to disclose who’s paying that $1.5 million price for the ads.

“It’s up to them,” Christie said when asked about the ads at a press conference Tuesday, according to PolitickerNJ. “It’s their group…I have nothing to do with the group. If they are out there helping me, I say thank you very much.”
